What is a Gerontologist?

BackNTouch℠ is guided by Gerontologists, who are professionals with Masters or PhD level degrees and specialize in the mature adult population—both the challenges and the opportunities.

Many people confuse Gerontology with Geriatrics. Geriatricians are MDs who focus strictly on diseases and the medical conditions of getting older. Gerontologists are not medical doctors. We do not diagnose or treat diseases, nor do we prescribe medication. Gerontology is a broader, multidisciplinary approach that includes the biology, physiology, psychology and the sociology of mature adults.

BackNTouch℠ Gerontologists:

BackNTouch℠ Gerontologists are experts on aging successfully, who will guide all conversations so that they are helpful, engaging, and worthwhile. We rely on evidence-based research to share practical behavioral changes, tips, and wisdom that can improve the quality of your life starting today!

Our purpose and passion is evidenced by our mission: “To guide adults in living longer and better lives through deeper emotional connection and engagement in a meaningful community”.

“It turns out that people who are more socially connected to family, to friends, and to community are happier. They are also physically healthier and live longer than people who are less well connected.”
The Harvard Study of Adult Development

“Those of us who work in Geriatrics believe that social integration is the answer to, if not every problem, then most of them.”
Dr. Lachs M.D. – Co-Director of Geriatrics at Weil Cornell
